Seeing the Positive in the Negative

I’ve always been an optimistic person. I think it’s because I’m always aware of how great life is and that these little set backs don’t mean much at all in the grand scheme of things. There simply isn’t enough time to dwell on the negatives.

I’m now experiencing my first proper lockdown due to COVID-19.

Prior to this, I was getting up at 5am every morning and training clients as part of my recently created personal training business, Nathan’s Mobile PT. Directly after this I would then work at my normal 9–5.

Everything was going well, then the lockdown happened, and I’m prohibited from training people.

Sure this is a bummer, for me and more importantly my clients who were seeing great results.

But instead of dwelling on the fact I can’t train people, instead I’m focusing on the benefits. Rather than getting up at 5am, I can now enjoy a cosy sleep in which feels astronomically better as it’s usually about -1 degrees in the morning. Without needing to get up early, I can now stay up later and do more things like watch movies, write blog posts like this, and anything else.

This is just one example of seeing the positive in the negative.

It can be applied to everything in life.

Life’s too short to focus on the negatives and the downsides of everything. Focus on the good in the bad, the positives in the negatives, and all the awesome things you can do.

What is your example of focusing on the positives rather than the negatives?

I’d love to hear about it!

Nathan
